Joyce Ruth (Beck) Evans

Joyce R. (Beck) Evans, 82, of Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Homestead Village. Born Sunday, March 31, 1935 in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late W. Paul and Vinette (DeHaven) Beck. She was the long time companion of Dale M. Arnold who passed away in April 2017.
A 1953 graduate of McCaskey High School, Joyce received her BS degree in Elementary Education in 1957 from Millersville University. From 1957-61 she taught at George Washington Elementary School and then for 24 years at Maytown Elementary School until her retirement in 1992. She also worked part-time as a librarian for Lancaster Newspapers, Inc. from 1954-59. Joyce was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Mountville. She was a former member of the Lancaster Woman’s Club and Mount Joy BPW Club. She was a member of the PA Association of School Retirees. In 1988 Joyce was named to Who’s Who Among American Teachers. In 1958 She was chosen as one of the 10 best dressed women in the Atlantic City Easter Parade. She was also a charter member of Job’s Daughters, Bethel #4.
She is survived by a daughter Deborah A. Stum, and husband Lonnie of Elizabethtown; a son James R. Evans, III and his wife Lori (Gallagher) of Mount Joy; a sister Phyllis B. Miller and her husband Ronald L. of Mountville, and three grandchildren: Shannon Koons and her husband James, Jeremy Stum and his wife Jodi, and Caden Evans.
Joyce was predeceased by a granddaughter Sara E. Evans.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 100 West Main Street, Mountville, PA 17554 at 11:00 AM. There will be no viewing. Visitation will be from 10:00AM until the time of service. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
