Joseph Sanchez, 85, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2024 at Country Meadows in Hershey, Pennsylvania after a long illness with his loving family at his side. Born to Italian-American immigrants in New York City on December 16, 1938, he was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, where he met his devoted wife of 65 years, Arlene.
After serving two years in the United States Navy, he moved his family to Baldwin, Long Island where he worked as a Bus Driver for the Hempstead Bus Company. But the career he was most proud of began in 1966 when he was presented with a badge by the Old Brookville Police Department in Long Island. His twenty-year dedication to the uniform included serving as President of the Nassau Police Conference and Vice President for the Police Conference of New York, successfully contributing to reforms passed in Albany by the late Governor Mario Cuomo to help his fellow officers. Retiring from the rank of Detective, he became a Pennsylvania resident in 1986. His valuable experience in law enforcement brought him to the Manheim Auto Auction in Lancaster County where he oversaw Safety and Security for 11 years. While Joe loved his golf game, ice hockey and an endless stream of eye-rolling Dad jokes, his true happy place was always with his family and closest friends whom he always made a priority. His wisdom, humor, work ethic, charisma and warmth will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived in death by his loving wife, Arlene; sister, Eleanor Koopmann; brothers Robert and Tony Sans; daughter Susan and son-in-law Brendan Corr; son Joseph P. and daughter-in-law, Joni; son Michael A. and daughter-in-law Tricia,; grandchildren Timothy Corr and wife Becky; Nicholas Sanchez; Anthony Sanchez and wife Renee’; Madison and Alexandra Sanchez; and great-grandchildren Ethan, Aiden and Vienna.
Family and friends are invited for a visitation on Wednesday, May 15th from 12 to 2 PM at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078. Burial will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
