John F. Van Horn

John F. Van Horn, 93, Elizabethtown, PA, formerly of Red Hook, NY, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown. Born in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Rev. John D. and Berdeen (Braymer) Van Horn.
John attended Geneva College in Beaver Falls and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 1942 with a BS in Electrical Engineering. On December 22, 1945, John married Victoria Joyce Hansen.
He held various engineering positions, the last 29 years of which were spent with IBM. He retired from IBM in 1986. After residing 22 years in Red Hook, NY, John and Joyce moved to the retirement community at Masonic Village in Elizabethtown. Joyce passed away on July 2, 1994.
John was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Elizabethtown; St. James Lodge #457, F&AM, Beaver, PA; Scottish Rite Consistory and the Zembo Shrine, both in Harrisburg, PA; Rotary Club of both Red Hook and Elizabethtown; and was a past president of the Red Hook Lions Club and the Hudson Valley Chapter of Data Processing Management Association. He was a licensed Professional Engineer in New York State and held a New York State Certificate in Data Processing.
John is survived by a daughter Isabel B. Fainbuch; a son John E. Van Horn; a grandson Peter John Van Horn and a grand daughter Kara Van Horn.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at the Carpenter Chapel, Masonic Village, Elizabethtown at 2:00 PM. Viewing will be in the chapel from 1:00 PM until the time of service. Interment will be private in Scottdale Cemetery, Scottdale, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Tree of Life, Masonic Village, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
