John H. Malvin of Elizabethtown, PA passed away early Sunday on November 25, 2018 at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. He was born in Chicago, IL in 1933.

John is survived by his wife of sixty years, Mary Sue Malvin, two children, John William Malvin and Pamela Burleigh as well as four grandchildren. They are Jacqueline Malvin, and Brayden, Jonathan and Nicholas Burleigh.

He served in the US Army from 1953 until being honorably discharged in 1955 after assignments in Germany and Korea. He lived in Southern California and work in the aircraft industry.

John and his family relocated to West Virginia where he graduated from West Virginia University and became a Registered Professional Civil Engineer. This led to moving to Pennsylvania where he worked at Three Mile Island and then in Philadelphia.

In 1985, John joined the US Department of State as a diplomat. He built new or secured older American Embassies in the Middle East and Africa. He retired in 1998 when he and Sue returned to Elizabethtown.

John was an active leader for the Boy Scouts of America in West Virginia and Pennsylvania. John’s journey with the Abraham C. Treichler Lodge No. 682 began in 2000.

There will be no formal service at this time. At the convenience of the family, a memorial will be arranged. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the USO or Wounded Warriors organizations.

Arrangements are being handled by Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Elizbethtown.
