John A. Makuch, 80, of Palmyra passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 11, 2023. He was born Friday, October 2, 1942 in Bristol, CT to the late Stephen and Elsie (Von Durr) Makuch. He is predeceased by his loving wife since June 22, 2020, Sally I. (Michaelson) Makuch.
John was a loving father, husband, brother and friend. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, sharing their joys and challenges with support and advice. John served in the U.S. Navy and enjoyed Ham Radio. John grew life-long passions for photography, gardening, science and the outdoors.
John enjoyed science and tinkering from a young age, eventually earning a Master’s degree in Physics from the University of Iowa and later an MBA. John spent his career innovating at companies to develop the first industrial lasers and fiber optic cables. Later in life, John chose to ‘give back’ his extensive scientific knowledge teaching in high schools and colleges.
He is survived by his two children: Jeff and Gail Makuch; brother, Robert Makuch; and numerous cousins.
