John D. Heile

John D. Heile, 98, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Masonic Village. He was born on December 22, 1925, in Greenville, PA to Roland and Margaret (McGrath) Heile and was raised in nearby Transfer, PA.

John graduated from Transfer High School in 1943 and joined the U.S. Navy Corps (WWII) where he served for three years. Following his discharge, he entered Grove City College, Grove City, PA, graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree. During his active business life, he completed numerous advanced courses in management and accounting.

He married MaryLee Harwood on August 21, 1954, in Shaker Heights, OH. Together, they have three children: Richard R. Heile of NH, Linda L. Bunts and husband Irv of TX, and James H. Heile and wife Patricia of Mechanicsburg; eight grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, George H. Heile and sister, Martha Ferry.

John was in various controller and financial management responsibility roles with Republic Steel and American Standard, was an International Controller for Peabody Galion Corp., Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Temp-Com, Inc., and Controller for General Dynamics, Quincy Shipbuilding Division. After taking early retirement from General Dynamics he relocated to Union City, TN. While there he served as Controller for Tennessee Electroplating, Inc., Ripley, TN for a year and a half.

John was an Emeritus Life member of the Institute of Management Accountants, previously belonging to the Financial Executives Institute, National Association of Accountants and the National Society for Business Budgeting. During his business life he was an avid golfer and was active in the Boy Scouts, Junior Achievement, Junior Chamber of Commerce, and other church and civic associations. Upon moving to retirement living at Masonic Village, he was active in healthcare volunteering, the computer club, newcomer greeting, the senior golf league, and was the lead usher at Sell Chapel.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at the Sell Chapel at the Masonic Village, 1 Masonic Dr., Elizabethtown, PA 17022, with Pastor Deborah Valiton-Carnish officiating. A committal service will follow at the Sell Chapel Columbarium. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 10am until the time of the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 N. Market St., Elizabethtown.
