John L. Gohn

John Lewis Gohn, 80 of Marietta PA passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at The VA Medical Center of Lebanon. Born on July 13,1946 in Columbia PA, he was the eldest of five boys plus one to the late John Marvin and Lois Marie (Showalter) Gohn.

John graduated from Donegal High School in 1964. He was very active in sports and depending on the season you could find him easily on the gridiron, shooting hoops or rounding the bases on the ball diamond. An avid sports fan all his life he proudly supported the BROOKLYN DODGERS and The New York Giants.

In July of 1964 John chose the military for his first career and signed up with Uncle Sam in The United States Air Force and was whisked away to Lackland AF Base in San Antonio, Texas. After completing basic training, he enrolled in the police academy and became an MP moving up in rank to an E4 SSGT. In May of 1967 John was called to serve overseas during the Vietnam Campaign in the Strategic Air Command and was awarded four combat medals during his tour. After taking a bullet for his country he received a full honorable discharge in July of 1968. Upon returning home from the military he transitioned back into civilian life, marrying his high school sweetheart Ann Larue (Foley) Gohn, received his BS in Business Management from Franklin and Marshall College and gained employment from Armstrong Industries until his retirement in 2000.

John was also active with the VFW of Mount Joy and The American Legion Post #466 in Marietta where he served as Commander and received Commander Of The Year in 2010.He was very proud to serve his country and was a continued supporter of the POW/MIA. His family was always a priority, and he did his best with the tools he had. He leaves behind two daughters, Abigail Larue wife of Jason Connelly of Ephrata and Corrie Ann Gohn of Marietta. Two grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Ballard and Malorie Christine Connelly. Also are six great-grandchildren Benjamin, Willa, Jedd, Syle, Miles and Isadora which were the light of his world. He is also survived by three brothers, Rudy Ney (Harriett), Denny Gohn (Tina) and Carl TEET Gohn (Sandy) and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents his brothers Gary M (Dawn) Gohn and Ralph R (Christine) Gohn precede him in death. His wife Ann also preceded him in death in 1975.

John’s wishes were no services but to raise a tall glass of suds in remembrance of him. The Gohn family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the Hospice Staff of 1-4B. You ladies rocked it, and your kindness and compassion never went unnoticed.
