Jean Heigel, 87, of Lancaster, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Mennonite Home in Lancaster. Born January 25, 1936 in Elizabethtown, she was the daughter of the late Ira and Mildred (Miller) Good. She was married to the late L. James Heigel on March 20, 1955 and they remained married for 62 years until his death in 2017.
Mrs. Heigel taught piano lessons for 68 years and introduced music to over a thousand piano students. At the age of 50, she attended Millersville University, majored in psychology, and went on to teach parenting classes at Church of the Brethren Youth Services and co-found Samara, a small nonprofit in Harrisburg.
Mrs. Heigel was a longtime member of the Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren, where she served in many capacities, including as a Deacon.
She will be lovingly missed by her children: Gregory J. Heigel (Emily) of Lancaster, Pamela K. Haddad (Joseph) of Manheim and Amy L. DeFazio (Michael), of Uniontown. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three brothers, Robert Good of Palmyra, Jay Good (Marilyn) of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, and Dale Good (Georgia) of Palmyra, as well as sister-in-law Helen Good of Elizabethtown, sister-in-law Peg Fosnot (John) and Elizabethtown and sister-in-law Thelma J. Haines of Portland Maine. She was preceded in death by husband L. James Heigel and brother Allen Good.
There will be a viewing held at the Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Thursday, December 28. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at the Elizabethown Church of the Brethren, 777 S. Mount Joy Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM.
