James J. Vargo

James Joseph Vargo, 86, of Elizabethtown and formerly of Philadelphia, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown.  He was born June 14, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Elizabeth C. Vargo.  He was married to Teresa B. (Hatton) Vargo on May 31, 1959.

A Veteran of the Korean Conflict, Jim proudly served his country with the U.S. Army.  He worked as a technical writer for the Department of the Army retiring on May 25, 1990.  An avid golfer, Jim enjoyed golfing and golfed at any available opportunity.  Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

In addition to his devoted wife of over 57 years, he will be lovingly missed by three children: Christopher P. Vargo and wife, Angelina, of Harrisburg, Gloria P. Hayes and husband, Jeffrey, of East Lansdowne, Andrea K. Vargo, of Philadelphia; 5 grandchildren: William Toy, Maria Isabella Vargo, Matthew Vargo, Masey Rose Vargo and Maggie Elizabeth Joy Vargo as well as Jim’s extended family and caring friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 904 Mill Road, Elizabethtown, PA  17022 with Rev. Steven W. Fauser as Celebrant.  Burial will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, with full military honors.  A viewing will be held at the church from 10 AM until the time of the mass on Tuesday.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 N.
