James E. “Jim” Decker, 77, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Lancaster General Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born Friday, June 3, 1938 in Huntingdon, PA, to the late Clarence Decker and Anna (Price) Ressler. He was married to Donna M. (Sweigert) Decker on September 11, 1976.
A Veteran, Jim proudly served with the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Wenger Feeds, Rheems where he worked as a truck driver for a number of years. He enjoyed bowling as well as micro sprint racing and at one point he and Donna owned a micro sprint car and enjoyed going to races at various locations in Pennsylvania and Delaware. Above all, Jim will be remembered as loving father, grandfather, brother and friend.
In addition to his loving wife of over 39 years, he is survived by his children, Candi Yinger, of Shippensburg; James Decker, Jr., of Annville; Jill Decker, of Pottstown; Scott Hoffer, of Annville; Matthew Decker, of Elizabethtown and Stephen Decker, companion of Shirlee Waugh, of Elizabethtown; four grandchildren, Ben, Scott Jr., Victor and Kaleigh; one great grandson, Travis; two brothers, John Decker, of Mount Joy and William Decker, of Arizona; a sister, Joyce Decker, of Philadelphia; his beloved dog, Sally and his two “grandpuppies”, Tassey and Hailey as well as Jim’s extended family and caring friends. He was predeceased by a grandson, Jason and three sisters, Helen Brandt, Darlene Miller and Sally Burkholder.
A Committal Service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, with full military honors. Relatives and Friends are also invited to attend a drop-in visitation on Wednesday at Hennigan’s Restaurant, 1990 West Main Street, Mount Joy, PA 17552 from 3:30-7:00 PM. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
