James “Jim” Edwin Bechtel, 78, of Hershey, passed away in his home with family by his side on Sunday, November 24, 2013. He was born Friday, July 26, 1935 in Lebanon County to the late Lewis and Emily (Immel) Bechtel. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley M. (Hilbert) Bechtel.

Jim worked for Hershey Foods in the almond roasting department and was a member of Local 464 Chocolate Workers Union. He faithfully attended the Evangelical Free Church of Hershey. Jim enjoyed working with his hands, growing flowers, gardening, woodworking, as well as working at Karns. He was a voracious reader and loved the outdoors and the time he spent at his cabin in the mountains. Most importantly he was a loving husband and father.

He is survived by a daughter, Debra Neidinger and husband James of Elizabethtown; a son, Kenneth L. Bechtel of Hershey; and 5 siblings, Pearl Frantz, Robert Bechtel and wife Miriam, Leroy Bechtel and wife Jean, Sterling Bechtel and wife Dianne, and Edith Gordon and husband Harry. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Norman and Lewis, Jr. Bechtel.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 27th at 11 AM at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra 17078, with Pastor Kevin Dixon officiating. Family and friends are invited for viewing on Tuesday, November 26th from 6 to 8 PM, and on Wednesday, from 10 AM until time of the service. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Annville.
