Jacob "Al" Sherk, Jr.

J. Albert “Al” Sherk, Jr., 72, resident of Arlington VA, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2015 after an intense battle with cancer. Al was the son of the late Jacob Albert Sr. and his wife Esther (Bordlemay) Sherk of Palmyra, PA  and the loving husband of Irene (Wojcik) Sherk.

Al graduated with BS and MS from Lehigh University and a PHD in Biology from North Carolina State. After graduating, he began working at the University of   Maryland conducting research on the Chesapeake Bay. In 1974 , he started work at the U.S Department of Interior. His 30 years of government service were spent mainly with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and USGS within Interior.

Al and his wife Irene of 46 years were extensive world travelers. Al also enjoyed playing his organ and golfing after retiring in 2004. He also loved going to his winter home in University Park FL for the past 10 years and being near many golf courses.

Survivors include his wife Irene; sister Suzanne Sherk of DE; brother-in-law Paul Wojcik of PA; niece Julie Wojcik Kulak and husband Kevin of IL; nephew John Wojcik and wife Kelly of NC; four grand nephews, one grand niece and many cousins.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 2 ^nd at 11:00 AM at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Annville.  Family and friends are invited for viewing from 10 AM until time of the service at the funeral home.
