Irene C. (Haake) Penwell

Irene C. Penwell, 82, of Maytown, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at Paramount Senior Living. Born Wednesday, March 16, 1938 in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Clara (Poole) Haake. She was married over 59 years to Allen D. Penwell who passed away in March 2014.

Irene was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maytown where she sang in the choir and was a member of the social ministry. She was employed by Central Savings and Loan, and Farmer’s First Bank in Marietta. Irene enjoyed eating out and going to the beach, but loved most spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons: John W. Penwell of Maytown and Allen S. Penwell of Marietta; four grandchildren: Jessica Coon and husband Daniel of Virginia Beach, VA; Melissa Herr and husband Justin of Elizabethtown; Taylor Penwell of Lititz; Joel Penwell of Maine, and three great grandchildren;  a sister Catherine Fillmore and husband Brad, and brother Joseph Haake and wife Patricia; and sister in-law Joanne (Haake) Kuss. She is preceded in death by her husband Allen Penwell, two brothers Harlen, and Robert Haake, one sister Arlene Lewis , and one great granddaughter Aleena Coon.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 21, 2020 in Maytown Union Cemetery, Maytown at 11:00 AM.
