Geraldine "Jerrie" R. Wolverton , 91, of Elizabethtown, peacefully passed away on Thursday, September 10th, at Lancaster General Hospital. Born March 11, 1935, in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Wellington S. and Rose Marie (Peters) Ellinger. She was married for 66 years to her beloved George, who passed away in May 2022. She was also predeceased in 2018 by sister Janice L. Kehler.
Jerrie was a graduate of Elizabethtown High School. She then served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict, earning the rank of Airman First Class at Mather AF Base in California, where she met and married George. She later worked at Elizabethtown College for over 30 years as the administrative assistant for the chemistry and biology departments, where she made lifelong friends of staff and students.
She loved music and enjoyed the church choir, starring in Music Foundation productions, and attending Gretna Music. Jerrie was fond of opera, unlike the rest of her family (a running joke), and had dreams fulfilled by attending productions in person at The Met, Philadelphia, and DC. Some of her fondest vacation memories were her multiple cross country trips with George, and summer vacations along the lakes of Canada and NY, and the beaches in Bethany DE and the Outer Banks NC. Another favorite memory was a cruise on the St. Lawrence River, Quebec, with her daughter. Jerrie and George both became learned birders in their retirement years and enjoyed many national wildlife refuges. They also enjoyed biking, including riding bicycles on a barge and ride tour in Austria.
She is survived by a daughter Wendy L. Roeder Scheuing, wife of Keith, Mount Joy; grandson Phillip Roeder (wife Callie) of Mary Esther FL, and granddaughter Adele Roeder (boyfriend Nick) of Landisville. Jerrie deeply loved and cherished her grandchildren and all their special, shared memories.
Jerrie wanted this to be shared: "So, go easy into tomorrow, and softly, too -- for only memory and love survive the ravages of time."
