Gerald W. “Jerry” Engle, 64, of Marietta, formerly of Elizabethtown, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, July 5, 2013 at Hershey Medical Center. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late J. Martin and Ethel (Garber) Engle. He was the husband of Sharon (Perschau) Engle. They celebrated 44 years of marriage on June 1st.
In addition to his wife Sharon, Jerry is survived by his sons: Timothy, husband of Jennifer (Dodds) Engle, Mechanicsburg and Curtis, husband of Jessica (Clouser) Engle, Elizabethtown; seven grandchildren: Abbey, Andrew, Halle, Kate, Seiler, Jacob and Liam; and two brothers: J. Harold, husband of Nancy Engle and Richard G., husband of Graciela Engle.
Jerry’s faith was the foundation of his life. His genuine faith was displayed through his church, his family and his involvement with Cornerstone Community Ministries. He was a longtime member of Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church where he was active with the Deacon Ministry for many years, Men’s ministry and Church Board. He also served as the coach to the Bible Quiz Team. Jerry had a heart for people and making connections with them. He was an example of a Godly man and mentor, and he discipled many in their walk with Christ.
His family was his priority. He made it a point to always be available to his sons, whether being there for their activities or working in his son’s business. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Cornerstone Community Ministries was also close to his heart. Jerry served as Chairman of the Board and was involved since it’s inception.
A 1966 graduate of Elizabethtown High School, he was also a 1970 graduate of Messiah College. After college, he joined the family business, Engle Business Equipment, retiring in 1995.
