Ethel L. Zarfoss, 93, resident of Retirement Living at Masonic
Village, Elizabethtown, died on Tuesday, February 26, 2013.
She was a 1937 graduate of the former Lemoyne High School and a 1940 graduate of the former Harrisburg Polyclinic Hospital School of Nursing in Harrisburg. A registered nurse, Mrs. Zarfoss worked at the infirmary in Brookley Field, Mobile, Alabama during the war and later in the emergency room at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, where she did electrocardiograms and Intermittent Positive Pressure breathing. While working at Community General Osteopathic Hospital in Harrisburg, she took a course in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation at the University of Pittsburgh. She retired in 1981 after more than 40 years as a registered nurse.
Mrs. Zarfoss was a former member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elizabethtown and was a member of Sell Chapel at Masonic Village.
Born in Lemoyne, she was the daughter of the late Fred John Lough and Estella (Hoffman) Lough Nagle. She was married to the late James J. Zarfoss who died in 2001. Her previous husband, J. Glenn Ebersole, Sr., died in 1984.
Mrs. Zarfoss was a member of Harrisburg Polyclinic Hospital Nursing Alumni Association, Elizabethtown Flower Club, Elizabethtown Chapter #407, Order of Eastern Star, the Leisure Group in Mount Joy and attended the Christian Women’s Club.
Surviving are a son John H. Kauffman, Shermans Dale and a daughter Leslie Ann Bastien, Marietta, GA; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one step-son, three step-grandchildren and four
step-great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013 at John S. Sell Memorial Chapel, Masonic Village, Elizabethtown at 2:00 PM. There will be no viewing. Interment will take place in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Garden, Elizabethtown.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607-1435.
