Emily Kim-Sang Abel

September 24, 2001 — April 27, 2025

Emily Kim-Sang Abel, cherished daughter, sister and friend known for her witty comments and dry humor, went to look upon the face of Jesus on April 27, 2025. Emme was born in Vietnam on September 24, 2001, and became an international traveler as an infant when she was placed into the arms of her loving, large family where she was doted on famously. She spent most of her life as a resident of Lancaster County before recently moving to York.

Although Emme faced many challenges in life, she always rose to the occasion overcoming language barriers and physical disabilities with grit and stubbornness. In preschool, she was given the nickname of “stubborn little cookie” by her teacher. Emme graduated from Elizabethtown Area High School and went on to work full-time at Vision Corps in both York and Lancaster.  Inspired by her own numerous nicknames, Emme developed the charming habit of giving clever and appropriate nicknames to people who inspired her, usually to their delight. Everywhere she went, Emme left people with a smile and a beautiful memory. Emme also spent many summer camps at Overbrook School for the Blind in Philadelphia where she made a network of friends. Always up for adventure, she loved river rafting, horseback riding, video games, music, amusement parks and exotic foods.  She appreciated shopping with her sisters, collecting pocket knives, collaborating with her coworkers, and spending time with her friends.  She cherished her best friend, a cat named Prince whom she adored.

Emily is the daughter of Candace (Paul) Rouse and David (Tierney) Abel. She is survived by siblings Shawn OConnell, Lorraine (Benjamin) Nweze, Courtney (Jaqueline) Abel, Nathaniel (Megan) Abel, Mai-Lynn (Alexander) Sahd, Alyssa (Mark) Barry, Elizabeth Castillo, Matilde Abel, Juliette Abel, Fabienne Abel, Kayla Abel, Tianna Abel, Hope Abel, Zachariah Abel and Thomas Rouse. Stepsiblings Grahm (Sarah) Foster, Britton (Ashleigh) Foster, Alexandra (Dayne) Shannon, and Nicholas Rouse. Additionally, 22 nieces and nephews and 1 great-niece and 1 great-nephew also survive her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, Alice Clouser and sister, Brittany OConnell. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held Friday, May 23rd at 10 am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 2935 Kingston Road, York, PA 17402.
