Elwood C. Morningstar
Elwood Cramer Morningstar, 97, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at the Middletown Home. He was born Tuesday, July 2, 1918 in Huntingdon, PA to the late Frank and Ethel (Cramer) Morningstar. He and his wife, Dorothy J. (Hoerner) Morningstar shared almost 40 years together until her passing on May 3, 1984.
Elwood grew up during the Great Depression and in the mid 1930’s went to work with Civilian Conservation Corps or CCC as they were known. The CCC was a government program to rebuild roads as well as state and federal parks. In the late 1930’s Elwood attended and graduated from Williamsport Tech School where he majored in mechanical and civil design drawing. He found employment with the Darling Valve Corp located in Huntingdon PA. In the 1940’s when his family moved to Middletown, Elwood moved to Elizabethtown where he met his wife, Dorothy. After moving, he found employment with Howard LeVan Engineering in Harrisburg as a civil designer for over 30 years until the company went out of business in 1980. He went on to work for Honeywell, Inc. until he retired in 1985.
He is survived by a son, Randy C. Morningstar and wife Lenora, of Elizabethtown; a grandson, Matthew F. Morningstar and wife, Jaime, of Lebanon; two great grandchildren, Brayden and Jocelyn Morningstar, both of Lebanon; a sister, Louise Shoop, of State College; a brother, Robert Morningstar, of Tyrone; a brother in law, Norman Ranck, of Elizabethtown as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 with Rev. Dan G. Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow in Good’s Mennonite Cemetery, Elizabethtown. A viewing will be held at the funeral home from 10 AM until the time of the service on Tuesday.
