Edward R. Shank

October 31, 1934 — August 26, 2020

Edward R. “Ed” Shank, 85, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy.  Born Wednesday, October 31, 1934, in Elizabethtown, he was the son of the late Paul and Ruth (Eckert) Shank.  He was married to Nancy S. (Smuck) Shank on July 21, 1961.

Ed proudly served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  He went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from Millersville University and his Master’s Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ed taught math and science for six years at Elizabethtown Area High School, where he assisted in coaching the high school baseball team.  His entire life, Ed was an avid sports fan.  After leaving education, he went on to work as a sales representative for various educational supply companies.

In addition to his wife of over 59 years, he is survived by two children: David E. George, married to Amy, of Media, PA and Dory A. Kessler, married to Steven, of Mechanicsburg.  Also surviving are four grandchildren, Julia Hainly, Alice Yaglenski, Joseph Hainly, and Max George; six great grandchildren; a brother, Robert S. Shank, of Elizabethtown, as well as Ed’s extended family and friends.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard E. Shank.

Private interment will take place in the Scattering Garden at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Mechanicsburg, at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements have been entrusted with the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA  17022, 717-367-1543.
