Edward Ridgell Jr., 77, of Mount Joy, PA, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024. Ed is survived by his loving partner, Rudy Yocum, his daughter Trissa (Samuel), and their three children, Allyson, Taylor and Samuel. He was preceded in death by Thomas Przywara, and his parents Edward Ridgell and Marmion Ridgell (nee Shuck).
Ed was born in Baltimore, MD and attended the Maryland Institute of Art where he earned a Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts. He spent his career as an art teacher in the Baltimore City Schools, most recently at Hamilton Middle School. As an educator, he saw art as a way to build his student’s self-confidence, primarily focusing on what he liked in each person’s work. He also wrote a successful grant application to get funding for some of the school’s first computers.
Ed also found beauty outside of the classroom. As an antique dealer and the owner of Line State Antiques, Ed turned his passion for history and art into a business he loved. Additionally, he was an avid poet, publishing two books, operating his poetry site, and acting as a one-time poetry forum moderator. He would frequently tell his students and family to take each day, one at a time, and to “follow your bliss” when choosing a career.
Ed’s legacy of kindness and wisdom will live on. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A private service will take place at the convenience of the family.
