Edward A. Pyle
Edward A. Pyle, 79, departed this world for the great golf course in the sky, Sunday, January 6, 2013. Born on January 1, 1934 to Ernest Roland and Irene Bond Pyle: He was known as “Ed” to most family and friends and “Jim” to the Pyle family, a nickname given to him by his grandfather in childhood.
Ed loved his family and worked hard to support and give them the very best during his lifetime. He worked as a serviceman and manager for Sears & Roebuck, Co. for 18 years before opening his own appliance store, E.A. Pyle and Company, Inc., in Palmyra, PA. He enjoyed serving the community of Palmyra through his business so much that he was known to say, “I haven’t worked a day in 35 years.”
The game of golf was one of Ed’s great passions; an activity he enjoyed playing, practicing and watching for 40 years. In 2006 he joined the Lebanon Country Club (LCC) where he participated in a weekly golf league, many tournaments and as much regular play on the golf course as possible. He especially loved playing a round of golf at LCC with his “golfing buddy” Larry Donnelly.
Ed is survived by his dear wife of 58 years, Joyce Rice Pyle. His children; Gary E. Pyle and wife Margaryta, John R. Pyle and Amy Pyle Crystle, will be remembering him fondly. Also keeping Ed in their memory will be his grandchildren; Jason E. Pyle, Jared R. Pyle and his wife, Karen Wilkens Pyle, Justis T. Pyle, Jonathan P. Pyle, Dustin R. Pyle, Dakota L. Pyle, and three great-grandchildren. Ed will be remembered also in the hearts and minds of his surviving siblings; Horace Pyle and wife Edna, Theodore Pyle and wife Barbara, Doris Pyle and Robert Pyle and their many children and grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at noon, Friday, January 11th, at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc.; 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078, with Rev. Richard L. Houtz officiating. Family and friends are invited for viewing from 11 AM until time of the service. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Annville.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ed’s honor to Dementia and Alzheimer’s research at Penn State Hershey Medical Center in care of the office of University Development, PO Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033.
