Edward William Mathews, Sr.
December 28, 1916 — October 18, 2014
He was an investigative reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Philadelphia Bulletin, and the Public Ledger. Edward retired as Postmaster from the Media Post Office after 37 years of loyal service. He was a faithful member of Gravel Hill United Methodist Church as well as a Rotarian in Media. He was very involved in youth sports in Media and enjoyed woodworking. Ed' most enjoyable days were spending time with his family at his house on long beach island. Most importantly he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his wife and her children, and their families, he is survived by a son, Edward W. Mathews, Jr.; 3 daughters, Virginia L. Kurzinsky, Deborah A. Wright, and Barbara S. Snyder; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a grandchild and a sister, Marie Schussler.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 27th at 1 PM at Gravel Hill United Methodist Church, 131 Gravel Hill Rd., Palmyra 17078 with Rev. Douglas Smith officiating. Friends and family are invited for visitation from noon until time of the service. Burial will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.
