Edward G. Keen Profile Photo

Edward Gerald Keen died peacefully, surrounded by love, on Tuesday May 13, 2025 in Hershey, Pennsylvania at the age of 87.

Ed was born in Pittston, Pennsylvania, where he developed early on his life-long love of baseball and family. On a blind date, he met Ann Munley, the girl of his dreams. He spent a happy year in graduate work at Creighton University, then married Ann in 1961. Ed was a dedicated professor in the English Department at SUNY Oswego for over 40 years, where he shared with students and with his own children his love for literature – particularly Shakespeare, Sir Walter Scott, and the romantic poets. Ed loved his life in Oswego, New York – his church, his campus, his family, and his home. He also loved his travels – to Folly Beach, to Europe, and to family far and wide. After a life well lived in Oswego, Ed moved with Ann to Palmyra, Pennsylvania – toward grandchildren and away from snow. Ed will be remembered most for his unconditional love of his family, his faith, his NY Mets, and his books. He personified humility, charity, and gentleness. Ed was an introspective, kind, devout, and good man. He will be deeply missed.

Ed was preceded in death by his father and mother Edward and Margaret (Vershouskas) Keen, his sisters Mary Grace Kuehnle and Anita Robbie, and his brother Thomas Keen. Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years Ann Munley Keen, his children Ted Keen (Sally Ann Law), Mary Keen Krikorian (Greg Kirkorian), Margaret Keen Keating (Pat Keating), and Ann Keen, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, his sister Theresa Dudrick, and nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 10 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 300 W. Pine St., Palmyra, PA 17078. A time of visitation will be held from 9 AM until the start of the service. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family at Saint Josephs New Catholic Cemetery, Lancaster.
