DR. EDWARD L. HITZ

Dr. Edward L. Hitz, 77, of Elizabethtown, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 in the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

He was born on July 9, 1936 in Cleona, PA to the late Jerome & Kathryn (Heilman) Hitz.

Dr. Hitz was a graduate of Hershey High School, Lebanon Valley College and the University of Pennsylvania. He was a self-employed veterinarian for 20 years specializing in farm animals. Following his veterinary career he owned and operated The Country Chef restaurant in Mount Joy. After his retirement from the restaurant business he worked as a substitute teacher for another 20 years in Gautier, Mississippi and the Elizabethtown Area School District.

He was a member of the Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren; he enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, swimming and spending time with his family.

He is survived by three daughters Laurie Ann Prah and her husband Paul of Duncannon, Lisa K. Hitz of Elizabethtown, Lucy J. Maghan of Elizabethtown, three sisters Faye Lokey of Bainbridge, Nancy Thompson of Florida, Carol Doyle of North Carolina, nine grandchildren Shane Branham, Michael Branham, Brittany Hoeschele, Cassandra Mora, Alexander Mora, Anjelica Mora, Conor Maghan, Aidan Maghan, and Daley Maghan.

A memorial service will be held at 4:30pm on Sunday, March 30, 2014 in the Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren, 777 Mount Joy Street, Elizabethtown, PA. Visitation will be from 3:30pm until 4:30pm on Sunday in the church.
