EDNA M. BARNES

Edna M. Barnes, age 97 died peacefully in her sleep at her home on March 8 ^th . She was the daughter of the late Clarence E. and Ella J. Barnes. Her sister, Jeanette Barnes preceded her in death in July 2011. There are no survivors.

Ms. Barnes graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1933 and Elizabethtown College in 1937. She was a second grade teacher in the Elizabethtown Area School District for 40 years.

Music was in her heart and soul. She lived for her music and she was a talented musician. She played viola in the Lancaster, Harrisburg and Hershey Symphony Orchestras for a total of 55 years. She also gave violin and viola lessons.

She was a former member of the All-America Chorus and spent a summer giving concerts in Europe and she sang at the World’s Fair in Brussels.

Edna was a life-long member of Christ Church United Church of Christ in Elizabethtown. She served as the choir director for 23 years, the organist, pianist, and as a choir member.

One of the many blessings in her last year was that she was able to continue to listen to her beloved classical music on a CD player that was given to her by members of the church choir. This gift gave her many hours of pleasure and comfort.

She enjoyed classical music, nature, oil painting, traveling, bowling and crafts.

As a long-time summer resident of Mount Gretna, she was involved in promoting Gretna Theater and served on the Board of Directors.

Friends are invited to attend the Life Celebration service to be held at Christ Church United Church of Christ in Elizabethtown on Wednesday, March 13 ^th at 2:0pm. Following the church serviced there will be a graveside service at Mt. Tunnel Cemetery in Elizabethtown.
