Edith Maude Metzger Booser peacefully departed this life August 15th at her home in Middletown, PA, where she resided with her daughter Marti and son-in-law David Black.  She will be missed greatly by her family and many friends.  Edith was born December 31, 1917 to Maurice and Anna Manning Metzger.  Her husband, James Henry Booser, predeceased her in November, 2007, after over 68 years of marriage.  Her five children survive her:  Dr. Daniel Booser ( wife Helene) of Houston, Texas; Mary Booser Weaver (husband William) of Middletown; John Booser (wife Connee Heim) of Roseburg, Oregon;  Joanna Booser of Bend, Oregon; and Martha Booser Black (husband David) of Middletown.  She is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  Edith graduated from Lebanon Valley College and devoted herself to raising her family.  After they were grown, she received her Master of Arts in Humanities from PSU/Capitol Campus.

Edith will be remembered for her kind and generous heart, strong faith, and selflessness.  As manager of family-owned apartments, she enjoyed providing housing to numerous young families and Hungarian and Vietnamese refugees.  She was an active member of the Middletown First Church of God and the Middletown community.

Edith and Jim teamed up on numerous projects for both church and town.  She was an enthusiastic supporter of the Middletown Interfaith Council and was instrumental in establishing Interfaith Apartments, Interfaith Thrift Shop, Adult Day Care, Care-a-van, and the swimming pool at Capitol Campus.  Serving the Girl Scouts of the United States in various roles from 1960 to 1979, Edith received national recognition.  At various times she served as president of the Middletown Women's Club, Middletown Interfaith Council, Middletown/Highspire Area Church Women United, and the Interfaith Housing Board.  She received an Outstanding Citizen Award for Community Service, was judge for the American Legion Auxiliary essay contest, helped award Rotary Club scholarships, and advised youth and taught Sunday School for twenty eight years.  She was also a member of the Frey Village Retirement Center Advisory Council, for which she received recognition "for devoted service as councilor and advisor."
