Douglas G. Shertzer, Sr. 68, of Palmyra, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016, surrounded by his family. Born July 27, 1947 in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Robert M. and Ferne (Gingrich) Shertzer. He was married 50 years to Donna M. (Updegrave) Shertzer. They had known each other since the 7th grade.
Mr. Shertzer was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Wormlysburg. He was a 1965 graduate of Central Dauphin High School and served 8 years as Fire Chief for the Creekside Fire Company in Camp Hill. Mr. Shertzer enjoyed golfing and was an avid fan of the Phillies, Eagles and Seton Hill Baseball.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son Douglas G. Shertzer, Jr. of Dusseldorf, Germany; a daughter Deanna L., wife of Curtis Morder, Annville; five grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two brothers: George E. “Tom” and Larry M. Shertzer.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 in Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home, 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra at 7:00 PM. There will be no viewing. Visitation will take place from 6:00 PM until the time of service.
