Douglas Sherman Boice, Sr., 88, of Bainbridge, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 13, 2025. Born in Binghamton, NY, he was the son of the late George S. and Jean M. (Lamphere) Boice. He was the loving husband of Katherine (Sandercock) Boice for 26 years.

He was a member of the Word of Life Chapel, Bainbridge, PA, and a member of the Seasoned Citizens Group there. Doug was affectionately known as “the Cuckoo Man”, for both his personality, and his love of clock repair. He was constantly working on home projects, anything from wood working to home appliance repairs, to building model ships.

Doug was a proud Navy veteran. His first assignment was on a sea plane in San Diego, patrolling the waters of the Pacific, where he travelled to China and the Philippines. He worked his way from RADAR specialist, up to Senior Chief Petty Officer, even earning several Good Conduct medals along the way. While in the Navy, he was known for his technical expertise, developing and maintaining complex reconnaissance systems. Doug received many commendations for his work. He eventually advanced to an instructor for Navy services and served in the Vietnam War.

After retiring from 22 years of service in the Navy, he worked at Racol Milgo, a data communications company in Freehold, NJ, as an operations supervisor. His last employment was as a salesman at Sears and Roebuck in Harrisburg.

In addition to his wife, Doug is survived by four children, Douglas S. Boice, Jr., Brian D. Schafer, Kerry A. Cochran, and Kevin M. Schafer; 10 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Judy and their three children, George Thomas Boice, Patrick A. Boice, and Robert L. Boice; two brothers, Grant Boice and Richard Boice; and sister, Joan; along with his parents.

He will be greatly missed for his loving spirit, sense of humor, and faith in God.
