Dorothy (Weigel) Yackley, 97, of Palmyra, peacefully passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022 at the Carolyn’s House, Harrisburg. She was born Tuesday, June 16, 1925 to the late Frank H. and Mary E. (Boys) Weigel in Lancaster.
After graduating in 1943 from Manheim Twp. High School in Neffsville, she went to work in the general office of the former Armstrong Cork Co. in Lancaster.
In June, 1948, she was united in marriage to William H. Yackley of Lancaster. Their marriage of 47 years produced two children who survive.
In 1968, both she and William (Bill) began a 19-year relationship with Milton Hershey School as houseparents, retiring to Palmyra in 1987. They served in both the Sr. and Intermediate Divisions. Prior to coming to Hershey, they resided in New Jersey for 7 years, and western PA for 11 years due to employment.
Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband in 1995, and, by her only sister, Ruth M. Heisey in 2009.
In addition to her children, Thomas R. (Patricia J.) and Patricia A. Yackley, she is survived by two grandchildren, Thomas R. Yackley, Jr (Michelle), and Jennifer D. Rein (Michael); four great-grandchildren, Nathan, Abbey, and Corbin Rein, and, Owen Yackley; a niece, Ellen Musser; and, a nephew, James Heisey.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 31, 2022 at 1 PM at the Fishburn United Methodist Church Cemetery, Hershey, with the Rev. Thomas R. Yackley, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the Fishburn United Methodist Church, 1215 Fishburn Rd., Hershey, PA 17033 of which she and her husband were long time members, or, to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17110.
