Dorothy Louise (Hedges) Smiley

Dorothy Louise (Hedges) Smiley, 80, of Palmyra, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 2, 2023 , surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 12, 1942, in Palmyra, PA. She was the daughter of the late Rufus and Louise (Yeagley) Hedges.

She was a light that could not be dimmed, leaving a lasting impression on each heart she touched. She was selfless, loving, feisty, and strong…there are not enough words to describe the woman we were honored to call  wife,  mom,  Grammy, and  friend.

After graduating from Palmyra High School, Dorothy enjoyed working as a waitress, meeting a host of acquaintances, and making lifelong friends. In her free time, she enjoyed baking with her grandchildren, vacationing in Cancun, and camping in the Poconos.

She is survived by her loving husband Douglas Smiley; her sister Nan Fittery wife of Dennis, her children: Mary Howard wife of Hank, Debra Heilman wife of Robert Jr, Kathleen Sremcich wife of Paul, Paul Smiley husband of Kerry, Kent Smiley Husband of Jennifer. Her grandchildren: Ashley, Amanda, Tonya, Kristen, Alecia, Heather, Payton, Alexis, Zoey, Douglas II, Mackenzie, Hannah, Genevieve. And  great grandchildren: Krysten, Raiden, Cheyenne, Destiny, Amaya, Paige, Riley, Kayanna, Makennah, Gyasi, Hunter, Chris Jr, Desiree, Jaxon, Everly, Jacailynn, Aden.

Preceding in death brothers: Edwin G Hedges (MIA Korea), Robin J Hedges, Donald C Hedges.  Sister: Berthena Vorodi. Also, two great grandsons, Sam, Joel.

Services will be held Monday, January 9, 2023 at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home. 25 W Pine Street Palmyra, PA 17078. A viewing from 5-6 PM with services to follow.

In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Dorothy may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Penn State Health Children’s Hospital.
