Dorothy “Dottie” S. Miller, 91, of Palmyra, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 26, 2015 in the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, Palmyra. She was born Sunday, August 5, 1923 on the family farm in Manheim to the late Harrison G. and Edna L. (Shearer) Miller.
She was an active and faithful member of the Palmyra Church of the Brethren, there she was the children’s supervisor of the toddler department, the financial secretary for over 10 years, and she sang in the choir for over 50 years. Dottie was first employed at the Shoe Factory in Elizabethtown and then moved to the Palmyra factory. While working at the Shoe Factory she took a home schooled bookkeeping course. Her first job in book keeping was at Klinefelter Chevrolet in Jonestown. She then took a job as the head bookkeeper at G.R. Sponaugle and Sons and retired after 35 years of dedicated service. Dottie moved to the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home in 1995 and remained active in the community volunteering at the gift shop, answering the phones, as well as any other position that was needed. Dottie had a great love of singing, she sang in the Miller Sisters Quartet, in the church choir, and later for the Harmonetts at the LVBH. She took great pleasure mowing the grass on the family farm with a hand mower, she also enjoyed tending to the flowers. Most importantly she was a loving woman with a gentle disposition and a servants heart.
She is survived by a brother, Paul E. Miller and wife Patricia of Harrisburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Rufus S. Miller; and 4 sisters, Rhoda Saylor, Helen Gebhart, Florence Royer, and Kathryn Kuntz-Dietz.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 14th at 10:30 AM at the DiMatteo Worship Center at the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, 1200 Grubb Rd., Palmyra with Pastor Dennis Lohr officiating. Burial will follow in Chiques Brethren Cemetery, Manheim. Friends and family are invited for visitation from 9:30 AM until time of the service.
