Dorothy (Smith) Heisey, 86, of Palmyra, passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at her home. She was born Thursday, March 1, 1928 in Palmyra to the late Joseph C. and Carrie I. (Rhoad) Smith. She was predeceased by her loving husband H. Marlin Heisey on Saturday, June 13, 2009.
She graduated from Palmyra High School in 1945 and Lebanon Valley College in 1949. She was a loving and dedicated educator, spending most of her teaching career in South and East Hanover Elementary Schools in Dauphin County and Jonestown Elementary in Lebanon County. She was a member of Palmyra First E.C. Church where she taught Sunday school and served faithfully in various positions including playing the organ and piano for many years. She was an active member of The Gideons International Auxiliary and Woman’s Christian Temperance Union. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed.
She is survived by two children, son Terry M. Heisey of Lebanon and daughter Dawn H. (Heisey) Walmer and husband Darrell of Palmyra; two grandsons, Daniel Walmer of Carlisle and Andrew Walmer of Palmyra; a brother, Donald C. Smith of Palmyra.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 22nd at 11 AM at Palmyra First E.C. Church, 55 West Main Street, Palmyra, PA 17078 with Rev. Michael Sigman and Rev. Rob Valentine officiating. Burial will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Wednesday, January 21st from 7 to 8 PM at the church and from 10 AM until time of the service.
