Dorothea C.H. (Lehmann) Grieger

Dorothea C.H. Grieger, 99, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on Tuesday, October 27, 1914 in Berlin, Germany to the late Karl R. & Ella C. (Steinberg) Lehmann.

Dorothea worked as a kindergarten teacher in Germany; she worked in the nursery at Somerset Hospital in New Jersey and was the owner/operator for 18 years, along with her late husband, of the Regal Motel in Middletown.

She was an active member of the West Green Tree Church of the Brethren, where she sang in the choir.

Dorothea had a lifelong love for music. She was a trained professional opera singer and played various musical instruments with ease. She was a published poet, an artist who painted many oil paintings and gave them to her friends. She was a creative hobbyist, spoke three languages fluently and crocheted.

She was the widow of Paul T. Grieger, she was preceded in death by a daughter Virginia I. Grieger, a brother and a sister.

Surviving are three daughters: Carla P.D. van Kessel and her husband Bert, Eva D. Kriebel and her husband James, Vera S. Grieger and her companion Donna Bowers, three sons Paul A. Grieger, Peter T. Grieger and his wife Mary, Freddy A. Grieger and his wife Imola; six grandchildren: Paul Grieger, Steven Grieger, Eric van Kessel, Evelyn van Kessel, Adam Grieger, Arthur Grieger; three great grandchildren: Damian van der Zee, Melissa van der Zee and Michael van Kessel.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, September 27, 2014 in the West Green Tree Church of the Brethren. Burial will be in West Green Tree Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10am until 11am on Saturday in the church.
