Donald E. Schmick, 88, of Elizabethtown, passed away at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown

on Sunday, January 10, 2016. He was married to Helen I. (Shumaker) Schmick for over 67 years.

Don was a veteran of WWII proudly serving with the U.S. Marine Corps: China Marines MAG-12 (VMF-115) Squadron.

He was the son of the late Charles and Elsie (Frederickson) Schmick of Harrisburg. He graduated from John Harris High School and Millersville State Teachers College.

In addition to his wife, Helen, of Elizabethtown, he will be lovingly missed by a son, Thomas M. Schmick

and wife, Brenda, of Montoursville, PA and two grandsons, Aaron T. Schmick, of Richmond, VA

and Ethan J. Schmick, of Pittsburgh, PA. He was predeceased by two brothers, William and Charles

Schmick.

Don loved his God, his family and his country. He was a loyal Penn State fan and held season tickets for over 35 years. He and Helen greatly enjoyed taking their grandchildren (who called him Pops) on motor home trips and to Penn State football games.  He also enjoyed visiting civil war battlefields

The saying “once a marine always a marine” fit Don well. He enjoyed the reunions of the China Marine Association and visiting the Marine Corps museum at Quantico, Virginia.  Don was also a 32nd Degree Mason.

Visitation will be held at 9:30 AM on Friday, January 22, 2016 in Sell Chapel at Masonic Village, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA

17022 followed by a memorial service at 10 AM with Reverend Gary S. George officiating.  Committal Services will follow the service at Indiantown Gap

National Cemetery, Annville, with full military honors. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Miller-­Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130

North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
