Dolores “Lola” Firestone
Dolores “Lola” (Perez) Firestone, 76, of Palmyra, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2013 in her home with family by her side. She was born Tuesday, March 16, 1937 in Santurce, Puerto Rico to the late Carlos and Juana (Soto) Perez. She is survived by her loving husband Donald E. Firestone.
She is survived by 3 sons, Rodney Firestone and wife Mary, Craig Firestone, and Brent Firestone and wife Sandra; 2 daughters, Kimberly Arndt and husband Joseph and Nickie Jones and husband Blaine; 7 grandchildren, Hunter Firestone, Aaron, Josiah, and Markos Arndt, Heatherann Bjork, and Beau and Adam Firestone; and 6 siblings, Gloria, Elsa, Carlos, Haydee, Yolanda, and Matilda. She was predeceased by a sister, Nilda.
Lola had a very strong Christian faith and held weekly Bible studies in her home for her women friends. She attended Sunday services with her husband at Palmyra United Zion Church. She was extremely close to her siblings and frequently traveled to Puerto Rico to visit them. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing her Spanish dishes for family and friends. Her Spanish rice was her signature dish and her recipe is cherished by her children and grandchildren. Another legacy she passed along was her love of nature and gardening. Her home was surrounded by flower gardens. She had a waterfall pond with multiple large Japanese Koi and birds and butterflies are frequent visitors as well. She was a member of the Palmyra Garden Club. She enjoyed decorating and had an extensive collection of teapots and teacups. She was an artist in textiles and she loved sewing, embroidery and needlepoint. She took good care of herself and attended Jump for Joy and Curves. She will be missed by a large number of girlfriends.
Family and friends are invited for viewing on Thursday, August 29th from 7-9 PM at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078. Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 30th at 10 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Rick Martin officiating, with viewing from 9 AM until time of the service. Burial will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.
