David C. Janes, 80, of Hastings, Michigan, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, surrounded by family at Woodlawn Meadows Assisted Living. Born in Ionia, Michigan, he was the son of Floyd and Marie Janes.

David proudly served his country as a submariner in the US Navy. He then used the skills he learned while serving as he worked at Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant for 30+ years. During his tenure at TMI, he mentored and touched the lives of many co-workers.

In addition to his career, David dedicated countless hours to a fellowship of sobriety, where he supported many people on their journeys to recovery. He maintained these relationships throughout his life, remaining connected to many of them until his final day.

In his free time, David enjoyed deep-sea fishing, working on projects around the house, and riding his motorcycle.

Above all, David loved his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose memory will live on through those he loved.

He is survived by his four children and their spouses: Bridget Bentley (Matthew) Hickory Corners, Michigan; Karen Stauffer (Brad) Annville, Pennsylvania; Katie Kugler (Jason) Annville, Pennsylvania; and Matthew Janes (Lissa) Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

He was lovingly known as "Da" to his grandchildren Tyler, Emily, Sarah, Matthew Jr., Caitlin, Abbie, Noah, Rebekah, Connor, Finn, and Collin, and to his great-grandchildren Philip, Violet, Ava, Brady, and Elowen.

In his later years, he also forged a special relationship with Bonnie Davenport of Hastings, Michigan, who brought joy and love to his life.

David was preceded in death by his brother, Robert; his sister, Marilyn; and his wife, Carla (Bassett) Janes.

A memorial service celebrating David's life will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Meadows in Hastings, Michigan.

A visitation and funeral service will also be held in Pennsylvania at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, PA on Friday, August 7, 2026. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the funeral service and military interment to follow.
