David L. Farmer, 83, of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on April 14, 2026, resting in his bed as a warm breeze moved gently through the room.
David was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Carol E. Farmer, as well as his parents, Robert C. Farmer and Leara Farmer Kline.
He is survived by his daughters, Cherise Harper and Danielle Malik; his sons-in-law, J. Brian Harper and Maqsood Malik; six grandchildren; and one adored great-granddaughter, all of whom carry forward his legacy of love, curiosity, and determination.
A lifelong resident of Elizabethtown, David spent most of his years on the 17-acre farm he cherished, in a home he thoughtfully designed and built alongside Carol. It was a place that reflected his creativity, independence, and deep appreciation for meaningful work.
David devoted 38 years to teaching English at Middletown Area High School, where he inspired generations of students with his passion for literature and learning. He also shared his knowledge as an instructor at Harrisburg Area Community College.
A man of wide-ranging interests, David found joy in woodworking, collecting cars—especially through his involvement in the Corvette club—volunteering at Cornerstone Youth Center, attending Shakespearean plays, traveling, and writing. He authored several books, including his most recent work, Escaping Room 210, which explored overcoming dyslexia and was written in collaboration with a close friend.
David was rarely still. He was a man who made plans, pursued ideas, and always had a project underway. His energy, curiosity, and commitment to growth defined his life.
His faith was a guiding force, and he was a devoted attendee of both Conoy BIC Church and Stevens Hill Community Church, where he formed lasting friendships and connections.
David will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former students, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Conoy BIC Church, 1722 Bainbridge Rd, Elizabethtown, PA 17022. Family and friends are invited to gather at his home immediately following the service to celebrate his life.
