Corda “Corky” M. Gilliland

Corda Mae (Baxter) Gilliland, fondly known as Corky, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Hershey Medical Center. Born May 7, 1928 in Smith Center, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Emory Greene and Arvilla Ica (Stockton) Baxter. She was widowed by her loving husband of 36 years, William Jack Gilliland, on October 8, 1985.

Corky was a 1947 graduate of Olympia High School in Washington State. She married her husband William, and became the definition of a proud Army Wife. She followed her husband around the world during his 30 years of service. She was the past President of the Officer’s Wives Club. She worked as the Personnel Director at The Alpine Nursing Home in Hershey, retiring in the early 90’s. In her free time she liked to play bridge, and do beautiful work with cross-stitch, knitting, and sewing. Corky was a woman who always had a sunny outlook on life, she never met an enemy.

She is survived by a daughter Michele A. Leo (Scott) of Hershey, one granddaughter Jaclyn Leo Hershfeld (Robert) of Parkton, MD, and two great grandsons William and Colin Hershfeld. She was preceded in death by her son, William B. Gilliland.

A Committal Service will be held at 10:30AM on Friday, March 25, 2016 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. Arrangements have been entrusted to Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, PA 17078.
