Colonel Anthony “Tony” Ambrose, MD, US Army ret., born on October 9, 1946, in Philadelphia, PA, the son of Francis J. and Josephine B. Ambrose, passed away in Hershey, PA on August 3, 2022 after a brief illness.
He is survived by Linda, his beloved wife of 54 years; two daughters, Kerry (Brian) Hogg and Megan (Shawn) Cuthbertson; his treasured grandchildren, Graham, Amy and Brendan Hogg; a sister, Frances Sowicz; nieces, Jennifer Oeschger and Bridget Snyder; and nephew, Timothy Sowicz.
A graduate of the United States Military Academy, Anthony was a proud member of the Long Gray Line, appreciating the shared values of its membership. During his first tour of duty following graduation, he was selected to command a Nike missile battery in Germany and then served as an infantry officer in Vietnam. Upon his return, Anthony studied at Penn State’s College of Medicine while still in the Army. He completed his Residency at Wm Beaumont Army Medical Center and a Fellowship at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He cared for patients as an Obstetrician-Gynecologist then as a Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist in military hospitals in the United States and Germany until his retirement from the Army after 21 years of service. Anthony returned to Penn State’s Hershey Medical Center in 1993 where he continued caring for patients and sharing his knowledge with medical students, residents and fellows coming behind him. He retired from the Medical Center in September 2021.
Anthony was devoted to his family, and was a man of integrity, strength and caring. He will be missed.
Interment will be at the United States Military Academy.
