Christina Terhune, 73, of Palmyra passed away July 7, at home. She was born in Hackensack, NJ on October 4, 1948 to the late John and Gladys Kruse. Christina was a 1966 graduate of Teaneck, NJ High School and received and Associates Degree with honors in Human Services from Luzerne County Community College in 1990.
Christina was married to C. Frank Terhune for 36 years. They were not only husband and wife but the best of friends. Their marriage is best described by dialogue from her favorite movie, Rocky. Paulie asks what he see’s in Paulie’s sister. Rocky says, “ I don’t know, gaps.” Paulie asks “ Gaps, what’s that?” Rocky responds. “ I got gaps. She got gaps. Together we fill each other’s gaps.”
Christina was a two-time Cancer survivor but couldn’t overcome the third bout. She was a person who could take life’s pains and hurts and turn them around to help other people. She was a Victim Advocate and Sexual Assault counselor for the Victims Resource Center in Wilkes-Barre, PA, the Luzerne County District Attorney, and the Crime Victims Council of the Lehigh Valley. She was an active congregant in several Lutheran churches over the years. One thing she taught us all is acceptance of each other just as we are and to love each one of us unconditionally.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Steven Barry and wife Cristie Barry of West Hanover, PA; and Michael Barry of Lake Harmony, PA, and a step daughter Jennifer Streit and husband Dan of Madison, WI; by her beloved grandchildren Lylah and Garrett Barry of West Hanover, PA, Jack and Samuel Barry of Bristol, PA, and Megan and Lucie Streit of Madison, WI; two brothers Paul Kruse and wife Linda of Wayne, NJ and Richard Kruse and spouse John Strauss of Copake, NY; and a niece Kimberly Kruse and nephew Matthew Kruse. She cherished by her many friends and cats.
She enjoyed her many hours spent at Eldercare in Lebanon. Special thanks to the aides, nurses and staff of Hospice for All Seasons, Grantville, PA, for the special care they provided us for Christina’s final journey.
Memorial worship and internment will be held at Faith Lutheran Church Blakeslee, PA where they first met. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the helping organization of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted with Rothermel-Finkenbinder Family Funeral Home.
