Charles S. “Charlie” Drescher, 88, of Bainbridge, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the VA Medical Center in Lebanon where he resided for the last three years. Born in Annville, he was the son of the late Luther and Stella (Bixler) Drescher. He was the husband of Orpha R. (Lynn) Drescher, they were married for 68 years.
A US Army veteran of WWII, Charlie fought in the Battle of the Bulge and received a Purple Heart and a European, African, Middle Eastern campaign medal with 3 Bronze Stars. He began his working career at Billmeyer Quarry, then was employed by Mumper’s Dairy for 25 years and retired from the former AMP, Inc. where he worked in production.
Charlie was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Bainbridge, Ashara-Casiphia Lodge #551, F&AM, Mount Joy, and was a life member of the American Legion in Bainbridge. He also enjoyed bowling, golf and hunting.
Charlie was the beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather of his wife Orpha, two daughters: April R. (Earl) Fuhrman, Bainbridge and Barbara K. (Joe) Ciccarelli, Mount Joy; five grandchildren: Scott (LaVon) Flowers, Jimmy (Lorraine) Flowers, Chuck Gainer, Kenneth Gainer and Michele (Matt) Osterlund; five great grandchildren: Jimmy Flowers, Josh Flowers, Nicole McKee, Taylour Trostle and Braden Osterlund; two great great grandchildren, Rowen and Adelle McKee; a sister, Shirley Price and a brother, Dick Drescher.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Brown and three brothers: Luther, Clifford and Carl Drescher.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 31, 2014 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 106 North Second Street, Bainbridge, PA 17502 at 11:00 AM. Viewing will be held at the church on Monday from 9:30-10:45 AM. A Masonic Service will be conducted by Ashahra-Casiphia Lodge #551 at 10:45 AM. Interment with military honors will take place in Bainbridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Charlie’s memory to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.
