Catherine V. (Wimer) Zimmerman, 96, of Harrisburg, PA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 27, 2012 at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, PA, where she was under the care of Hospice.
She was born on February 14, 1916 in Harrisburg, daughter of the late Ruth and Wallace Wimer. She was a 1933 graduate of John Harris High School. She was the widow of Chester W. Zimmerman, to whom she was married for 67 years. Surviving are her two children, Rev. Walter B.
Zimmerman and his wife Sandra (Wynn) Zimmerman of Steelton and Virginia L. “Ginger” (Zimmerman) wife of the late F. Raymond Jordan Jr. of Harrisburg. Catherine has seven grandchildren, Tammy Miller, Leith Ann Miller, Lynn Barlup, Jennifer Vergot, Melissa Scheib, Kristen Jordan and CPT Floyd R. "Chip" Jordan III. There were also 15 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She retired from the Harrisburg School District as a secretary for the Building and Grounds Department. She was also a lifetime member of Harrisburg First Church of God, where she had been a Sunday school teacher and member of the Choir. She was also a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 509, Hershey.
Catherine was a cancer survivor, and she supported the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition. Known as Kitty to her friends, she was an avid crafter, knitter, card player, and Phillies fan. She loved spending time with her husband and family.
Services for Catherine will be held at Caring Community Church of God, Hummelstown, on Tuesday, October 2nd, 2012. Visitation will be at 10am. Service at 11am with Rev. Wayne Gosnell Sr. officiating.
Internment will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made to PA Breast Cancer Coalition 344 North Reading Rd, Ephrata, PA 17522.
