Catherine E. "Mickey" (Shultz) Messersmith

Catherine E. “Mickey” (Shultz) Messersmith, 97, of Elizabethtown , formerly of Palmyra , passed away peacefully on Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Masonic Village , Elizabethtown .  She was born Sunday, December 3, 1916 in Lancaster to the late John F. and Susan Bell (Miller) Shultz.  She was predeceased in 1993 by her loving husband George F. Messersmith.

She had worked as a Teachers Aide at Derry Preschool, was an active member of Palmyra First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, and volunteered at the snack bar at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon .  She was kind, loving, and forever willing to lend a hand to someone in need.  Most of all she was a follower of Christ, and showed that love to her family and friends.

She is survived by a son, James R. Messersmith of Rockhall, MD; two daughters, Carol A. Wissler and husband R. Theodore of Lancaster , and Karen M. Miller and husband Dr. Mitchell B. of Virginia Beach , VA ; eleven grandchildren, Lisa, John, G. Michael, Christopher, William, and Sarah Messersmith, Christa and Shannan Wissler, Dr. Devin, Emily, and Nathaniel Miller; nine great grandchildren; one nephew, Robert Shultz.  She was predeceased by a son, Dr. John K. Messersmith; a brother and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 5th at 10 AM at Palmyra First United Methodist Church , 520 East Birch Street , Palmyra , PA 17078 with Rev. Michael S. Remel officiating.  Family and friends are invited for viewing from 9 AM until time of the service at the church.  Burial will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery , Annville.
