Caroline Elizabeth (Mauerman) Heneks,  94, of Uniontown, PA, formerly of Palmyra, PA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Friday, January 16, 2015.  She was born on Sunday, January 9, 1921 in Youngstown, OH, the sole child of Carl and Jean Mauerman.

She graduated from Youngstown South High School and was employed as a secretary most notably General Electric Company in the 40's and early 50's.  She met the love of her life, Jack R. Heneks, Sr., and married him.  They remained happily together for 56 years until his death on February 15, 2007.  As a result of Jack's employment with the Erie Lackawanna Railroad as a civil/division engineer, the family moved from Youngstown to Parsippany-Troy Hills, New Jersey, to Hornell, New York and eventually came to reside in Palmyra, PA, after Jack become employed in a private rail building firm in Hershey, PA, East Coast Railroad Builders. After her husband’s death Caroline came to reside near her son, Jack, in Uniontown.

She is survived by two sons, Jack R. Heneks, Jr., the District Attorney of Fayette County, and his wife, Diana Tiberi Heneks, of Uniontown, and Jeffrey A. Heneks, a computer engineer employed by Wells Fargo Bank, and his wife, Julia, of Laurel, Maryland.  She was the proud grandparent of Laura Heneks, a sophomore at Laurel Highlands Senior High School, Alyssa Gallo, a graduate student at California University of PA, and senior activity director at Senior Life of Uniontown, where Caroline, "Nana," was a member, Mark Heneks, a computer engineer, graduate of the University of Maryland and resident of Bridgeport, CT, and Jean Heneks, a chemistry major at Selinsgrove University.

Her parents and brother-in-law, Russell Heneks, have predeceased her.  She is survived additionally by her sister-in-law, Edna McCaffrey, of Los Angeles, CA; and by nieces, Nancy McCaffrey, of Richmond, CA, Lee Reeves, of Prescott, AZ, and Frances McCaffrey, of Los Angeles, CA; nephews, Mark McCaffrey, Russell McCaffrey of Los Angeles, CA and William McCaffrey of Atlanta, GA; numerous grand nephews, nieces and relatives.

A special thank you is extended to Connie, Don and Donnie Williams, of Uniontown, who took such wonderful care of "Nana" in the last years of her life.  Caroline was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, giving of herself to her family on a daily basis.  She was a lively and excellent dancer, her husband and she frequently the life of the party as they dance to Sinatra era music. She was an avid swimmer being in the water well into her later years.  Caroline was proud to have returned to employment after her children went away to college, becoming a lab technician at Hershey Medical Center and retiring from there.  She made friends easily and will be missed by those she touched.  Caroline remained beautiful to her last day.

A funeral service will be held Monday, January 19th at 1:00 PM at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078 with Rev. Dr. John D. Merkel officiating.  Burial will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.  Family and friends are invited for viewing on Monday from 11:00 AM until time of the service at the funeral home.
