Carl H. “Perc” Markley, Sr.

Carl H. “Perc” Markley, Sr., 88, of Columbia, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 4, 2016 in Columbia.  Born July 19, 1927 in Columbia, he was the son of the late Harry F. and Violet Mae (Reigle) Markley.  He was married to Emma (Snyder) Markley for over 47 years until her passing in September of 1995.

A Veteran of the Vietnam War, Perc proudly served his country with the U.S. Army.

He went on to retire from the Army with over 20 years of service, and subsequently worked at various local business entities.

He is survived by a son, Grant S. Markley and wife, Su Lien, of Lancaster; a grandson, Grant Nickolas "Nick" Markley, of Elizabethtown; two brothers, Jay Markley, of Columbia and Larry Markley, of Lancaster; three sisters, Shirley Smith, of Marietta; Victoria Waugh, of Columbia and Yvonne Scantling, of Wrightsville; a close friend, Harriet E. Shiffer, of Columbia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Carl H. “Perc” Markley, Jr.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, April 8, 2016 at the Smedley-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 29 N. Gay St., Marietta, PA 17547, 717-426-3614 with the Rev. Dr. Earl K. Ziegler officiating.  Burial will follow in the Marietta Cemetery with full military honors.  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to view at the funeral home from 10 AM until the time of the service on Friday.
