Bruce I. Umberger
Bruce I. Umberger, 78, of Palmyra, died Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at the Harrisburg Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Monday, November 9, 1936 in Annville, PA to the late John A. and Dorothy M. (Templin) Umberger. He was married to Gladys (Carter) Umberger for nearly 21 years. Gladys died on December 25, 1996.
A Veteran of the Korean Conflict, Bruce proudly served with the U.S. Army as a medic in the 11th Airborne Division. He retired as the chief operator of the Palmyra Sewage Treatment Plant.
He will be lovingly missed by his siblings: Kenneth Umberger and wife, Esther, of Palmyra; Janice Peiffer and husband Earl “Fritz”, of Lebanon; Elaine Lynch and husband Paul, of Myerstown as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and caring friends. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Richard Umberger and a sister, Doris Van Maanen.
A memorial service will be held at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with the family on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of the service. Private Interment will be at a later date in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA with full military honors.
