It is with great sadness that we announce Barry Lee Hess, of Elizabethtown, PA passed away on October 22, 2024. He was 73. Barry was the son of the late John and Evelyn (Kreiner) Hess.

Barry had a strong work ethic and worked various technical jobs during his lifetime. However, the real passion in his life was his connection to his family and friends. He was always up for a challenge and loved to work his way through a problem…and then tell you all about it. He enjoyed working on projects, big and small, helping out family and friends. Always willing to help when someone had a need, Barry was the first to show up and roll up his sleeves.

In his younger days, he raced motocross and flat track motorcycles often taking the checkered flag. He loved music, playing guitar, and eventually established Roadrunner Music where he DJed many local dance events. He was an accomplished dancer and taught dancing for several years. He started the Red Rose Swing Club and helped grow local interest in the West Coast Swing style of dancing.

Barry enjoyed attending car shows and showcasing his Dodge Challenger muscle cars. He loved riding his motorcycle with friends and family and enjoyed the Lawn Biker Breakfasts. At the age of 72, Barry discovered the thrill of electric unicycles and started regularly attending Intro2Speed events, wheeling around with a new community of friends, many less than half his age. Barry had a zest for life and a caring spirit that was intoxicating to anyone in his circle.

He is survived by his daughter, Yvette Hess and his daughter-in-law, Wendy Powell. He is also survived by his siblings, Bonita Brockert, Steve Hess, Mike Hess, Betty Huffman, Karen Shanafelter, Craig Hess, Tracy Lee, Chris Hess, and many nieces and nephews. Barry was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Morgan.

Family and friends are invited to share their love and memories of Barry in a celebration of his life on November 15th at 2PM at Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 N. Market St., Elizabethtown, PA 17022. A visitation will be held from 1PM until the start of the service. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
