Arthur H. Mengel

Arthur Herman Mengel, 89, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 24, 2016 at the Masonic Village. He was born Saturday, November 16, 1926 in South Londonderry Township to the late Herman and Ella Mengel. He was predeceased by his loving wife Betty (Heiple) Mengel.

He is survived by 2 children, Dwight Mengel and wife Alisa and Elizabeth Sanford and husband Scott; 3 grandchildren, Sarah McCree and husband Jesse, Rebecca Allinder and husband Jimmie, and Jonathan Mengel; a great-granddaughter, Hannah McCree; and a daughter-in-law Claudia Mengel. He was predeceased by a son Rev. Craig A. Mengel; and siblings, Walter, John, and Mary Ethel Mengel.

Arthur grew up in Palmdale and graduated from Hershey High School in 1944. After completing a year at Hershey Junior College, he enlisted in the US Army Air Force in WWII, serving in an engineering unit in the Philippines and Japan. He earned the rank of Staff Sgt. Afterwards, Arthur worked for General Electric, TEK Bearing and Kaman Industrial Technologies as a regional manager in industrial sales.  Arthur and Betty spent their retirement years playing golf, traveling, and enjoying family and friends. In 2011, Arthur moved to Masonic Village in Elizabethtown where he enjoyed life with new and old friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 19th at 3:30 PM in the John S. Sell Memorial Chapel, One Masonic Dr., Elizabethtown 17022. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA. Arrangements have been entrusted to Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 N. Market St., Elizabethtown 17022.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the Masonic Village at Elizabethtown and mailed to Office of Gift Planning, One Masonic Dr., Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
