In loving memory of Anthony N. Fasano, 87, who passed peacefully in his own home on Thursday April 16, 2015. Born April 7, 1928 in Port Washington, NY He was the son of M. Antonio Fasano and Angelina Fasano. He was recently preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Adella Chugin Fasano. He was one of five children. He was preceded in death by his sisters Josephine and Madeline and by his brother Carl. He is survived by his youngest sister Louise Dell, his son Ben Fasano and his daughter Louise Answine. As well as, six grand children and six great grand children.
Anthony graduated from Clarkson University in 1950 with a BS in Chemical Engineering. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. Upon his return, he completed a MS in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Nuclear Engineering from NYU. He was recognized for 10 years of service to the Department of the Air Force in 1964 for his research at Brookhaven National Laboratories and Wright Patterson Air Force Base. In 1972 he received certification from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in nuclear power reactor safety. He retired from the US Atomic Energy Commission, after thirty years of service, in 1984. Prior to his retirement he was one of the chief investigators of the TMI accident, in 1979, and an integral contributor to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's report on the accident.
Anthony had a passion for plants and gardening. He was an engineer at heart and saw any household problem as a puzzle to be solved. He had talents for electronics, masonry and carpentry. A loving father and proud grand father he shared his talents with his family well into his 80's never hesitating to tutor calculus. A line from a poem by Laurie Anderson summarizes: when my father died, it was like a whole library burned down.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 24th at Noon at the St. Peter Catholic Church, 1840 Marshall Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 with the Very Reverend Steven W. Fauser, V.F. as Celebrant. Burial with full military honors will follow in Mount Tunnel Cemetery, Elizabethtown. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 11:00 AM until time of the Mass. Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown has been entrusted with the arrangements.
