ANTHONY F. CIOFFI
Anthony F. Cioffi, 90, of Mount Joy, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Manor Care, Elizabethtown.
He was born on February 5, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Peter & Josephine (Cirullo) Cioffi.
Anthony was a WW II veteran serving in the US Army Air Corps between 1943 and 1946. During his service he was attached to a medical unit. He was a mechanic at the NY Naval Shipyard until its closing in 1964. He was one of few remaining ship workers surviving the decommission of the USS Independence CVA-62 and when it was struck in 2004. He was especially proud of this ship, built and launched from Brooklyn, NY in 1958.
Anthony enjoyed his retirement and moved to Lancaster in the early 1990's where he enjoyed attending train shows and spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife Rose (Moschella) Cioffi, his son Anthony Cioffi and his wife Rena of Leola, his two grandchildren Noreen and Peter, his two sisters Grace and Nancy. He was preceded in death by three brothers Pat, John, Leo and two sisters Mary and Annie.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at
10am on Wednesday, March 6, 2013
in Mary Mother of the Church, 625 Union School Road , Mount Joy , with Rev. Father Luis R. Rodriquez as celebrant. Burial with full military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery .
